Recommended Action

City Commission proclaim November 3, 2018 as Play Day in the City of North Port, Florida.

Background Information

Playful City USA is a national recognition program honoring cities and towns that are making their cities more playable and taking action to ensure that children in their communities get the balanced and active play they need to thrive. The City of North Port received this designation for eight consecutive years from 2010 to 2017. Although Playful City USA is not selecting honorees in 2018, communities are encouraged to continue focusing on finding new, innovative and exciting ways to ensure that all kids have great “PLAYces” to play.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board along with staff from the Parks and Recreation Department are tasked with developing recommendations to meet Playful City initiatives. Organizing and celebrating an annual Play Day is one of these initiatives.
