TITLE: Proclamation for Play Day in North Port, Florida
Recommended Action
City Commission proclaim September 16, 2015 as Play Day in the City of North Port, Florida. Sandy Pfundheller and Robin Carmichael will be accepting the Proclamation.
Background Information
Playful City USA is a national recognition program sponsored by the Humana Foundation, honoring cities and towns that are taking action to ensure that children in their communities get the balanced and active play they need to thrive. To be honored as a Playful City USA designation, communities must demonstrate a commitment to play by promoting policies that increase play opportunities for children; building and maintaining parks and playgrounds; engaging citizens in parks and recreation initiatives; leveraging community partnerships; and financially funding new and existing parks and play spaces.
In 2015, the City of North Port was one of 241 cities and towns across the country recognized as a “Playful City USA” and are one of 22 to receive the honor six consecutive years. The City’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board along with staff from the Parks and Recreation Division are tasked with developing recommendations to meet Playful City initiatives.
