Recommended Action

Approve Contract No. 2019-65 with Andrew Sitework, LLC for the Water Distribution Improvements Project in the amount of $725,369.53 with a contingency amount of $36,268, for a total cost of $761,637.53.

Background Information

The Water Distribution Improvements Project will loop dead-end water lines in the S. Calera Street, Brickell Drive, and Jeannin Drive areas. The project includes the installation of new potable water mains within the existing roadway rights-of-way and will include connection to existing mains and stub-outs for future water main extensions, as well as the installation of gate valves, fire hydrants, and water service connections.

This project will improve potable water distribution system reliability, fire flow, water quality, and pressure as well as reduce the amount of flushing necessary to maintain water quality in the focus areas.

The Water Distribution Improvements Project was advertised on April 16, 2019. A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting was held on April 23, 2019 in Purchasing. Seven bids were received, opened and read on May 16, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Staff reviewed the bids and the lowest, responsive contractor has been determined to be qualified for the project by the Engineer of Record, Stantec. Based on this information, Utilities Department recommends award of Contract 2019-65 to Andrew Sitework, LLC.

The Contract has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is approved as to form and correctness.

Strategic Plan

Continue the looping of water lines to enhance water flow and quality.
