TITLE: Utilize Sourcewell (formerly known as National Joint Powers Alliance) contract to purchase one (1) structure from ClearSpan Fabric Structures International in the estimated amount of $180,000, which includes contingency.


Recommended Action

Utilize Sourcewell (formerly known as National Joint Powers Alliance) contract to purchase one (1) structure from ClearSpan Fabric Structures International in the estimated amount of $171,135.12 plus $8,864.88 for contingency.

Background Information

The City of North Port Solid Waste District plans to continue utilizing a dual stream collection system and maintain clean quality recyclable material. At the new Recycling Center proposed to be developed and operated at 5455 Pan American Boulevard, an existing building will be utilized for the storage of cardboard and paper. A new fabric shelter will be constructed for the storage of commingle material (glass, plastic, and cans). Both structures will temporarily hold recyclable material from the City's collection vehicles prior to consolidating into larger transport vehicles. The Recycling Center will allow Solid Waste Division staff to evaluate the recyclables, address potential contamination and give the City the flexibility to search for a processor with reasonable fees.

A fabric structure is proposed at the Pan American site as an affordable environmentally-sound way to sort through commingle recyclable materials (glass, plastic and cans). The dimension of the structure is 54' wide, 50' long and 20' high. The fabric structure could be relocated to another location in the future if necessary.
