Approve utilization of the State of Florida Department of Management Services Agriculture and Lawn Equipment Contract No. 21100000-15-1 to purchase one (1) tractor for the Utilities Department in the estimated amount of $36,309.71 from Deere & Company. The tractor is used in the Field Operations section but increasing demand warrants the purchase of a heavier machine to operate more efficiently. In the last 11 years since purchase of the 3120 tractor, water and wastewater service has grown significantly and so has the scale of infrastructure repairs and installations. One example is when there are large areas to sod, it is necessary to transport a forklift and the 3120 tractor because the tractor alone does not have enough power to lift a pallet of sod. With a larger and more powerful tractor, Utilities will be able to operate more efficiently. The 3120 tractor, however, can be utilized full-time at the Water Plant to manage sludge, making this operation more effective. Fleet agrees that the 3120 tractor could operate sufficiently and be re-purposed to this lower demand operation.
