Recommended Action

Approve utilization of the Florida Sheriffs Association & Florida Association of Counties Cooperative Bid No. FSA17-VEH15.0, Spec #13 to purchase a replacement patch truck from Lou Bachrodt Freightliner in the estimated amount of $155,210.00. This vehicle purchase was approved in the fiscal year 2018 budget.

Background Information

The Department of Public Works Operations and Maintenance Division has one 2007 Patch Truck (CID 70910) that is scheduled for replacement. This determination is based on Fleet Management's replacement policy and recommendation due to the truck being past its useful life criterion, having high operation hours, high life-to-date maintenance and repair costs, the overall condition, and expected reliability. The old truck will be auctioned.

The new truck will be a heated with propane, unlike the old truck which had electric heating. Propane heat systems have fewer components and are less maintenance intense while still providing optimal performance and safety. This machine will be used within the Operations and Maintenance Division for patching potholes and road utility cuts, and repairing road shoulders.

Lou Bachrodt Freightliner is an approved vendor under the Florida Sheriffs Contract FSA17-VEH15.0. This contract is made available to local governments and municipal Police and Fire departments within the State for vehicle and equipment acquisition.
