TITLE: Endorsement of Proposed Project Funding to the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization in a Prioritized Order
Recommended Action
Approve endorsement of Proposed Project Funding to the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization in the presented, prioritized order.
Background Information
Annually, the Sarasota-Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) requests that Sarasota County, Manatee County and the cities therein submit projects to the Sarasota-Manatee MPO that are considered priorities. In 2018, the City Commission endorsed the following Project Fund applications, prioritized in the order they are listed:
* I-75 Interchange at Yorkshire Street - The City of North Port did not submit a Project Fund application to the Sarasota-Manatee MPO for this Project. This Project would strictly be a Florida Highway Administration (FHWA)/Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) funded project. The City of North Port merely demonstrated their support for this Project.
* River Road Widening, US41 to I-75 - The City of North Port did not submit a Project Fund application to the Sarasota-Manatee MPO for this Project. The City of North Port merely demonstrated their support for this existing FDOT Project soon to be a Sarasota County Project which is included in FDOT's Five-Year Work Program.
* Price Boulevard Widening, Sumter Boulevard to North Port High School/Heron Creek Middle School.
* Biscayne Drive Bicycle Lanes Extension, Glenallen Boulevard to Ponce de Leon Boulevard.
* Ponce de Leon Boulevard Bicycle Lanes, Biscayne Drive to Tropicaire Boulevard.
None of these projects were selected for funding through the MPO process. River Road, between US41 and I-75 is now being funded by non-related MPO funding. Ownership of River Road is being transferred from Sarasota County to the FDOT. MPO staff suggested the Price Boule...
