Recommended Action
Option 1: Accept the invitation from the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners to schedule a joint meeting of the two Commissions in 2026.
City Commission Options
Option 1: Accept the invitation from the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners to schedule a joint meeting of the two Commissions in 2026.
* Pros: Meet with the Sarasota County Commissioners to coordinate and collaborate on issues impacting our shared community.
* Cons: Staff have not identified a disadvantage to accepting the invitation to meet with the Sarasota County Commissioners to collaborate on issues impacting our shared community.
Option 2: Deny the invitation from the Sarasota County Board of County Commissioners to schedule a joint meeting of the two Commissions in 2026.
* Pros: Staff have not identified an advantage to denying the invitation to meet with the Sarasota County Commissioners to collaborate on issues impacting our shared community.
* Cons: The North Port City Commission and Sarasota County Commission would not have an opportunity to have a joint meeting in 2026.
Background Information
The City of North Port received a letter from Jonathan R. Lewis, ICMA-CM, Sarasota County Administrator on January 7, 2026, inquiring as to whether the City of North Port Commission desires to schedule a joint meeting of the two Commissions in 2026.
In response to Sarasota County Administrator Lewis' outreach, this item is being brought forward to confirm the City Commission's interest in holding a joint meeting.
