TO:                                           Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission

FROM:                      A. Jerome Fletcher II, ICMA-CM, MPA, City Manager

TITLE:                     Approve Purchase Agreement With H.K. Dog Training, LLC in the Amount of $12,500 to Purchase K-9 Nikon, a Two-Year Old Male Dutch Shepherd.

Recommended Action

Approve Purchase Agreement with H.K. Dog Training, LLC in the amount of $12,500 to purchase K-9 Nikon, a two-year old male Dutch Shepherd.

Background Information

The Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation previously awarded a $25,000 grant to the North Port Police Department for the purpose of purchasing equipment as determined by the Chief of Police.

Police Chief Todd R. Garrison has requested that $12,500 of the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation grant be allocated towards the acquisition of a 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd K-9 named Nikon, sourced from H.K. Dog Training, LLC. K-9 Nikon will replace K-9 Murph, who is scheduled to retire next year. In accordance with the donor’s request, once Nikon is officially purchased by the City, he will be named K-9 "Harry."

Utilizing $12,500 of the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation grant to purchase K-9 Nikon represents a significant cost-savings for the City.  This grant donation significantly reduces the use of general funds for subsequent replacement K-9 purchases.

Strategic Plan

Financial Impact

Funding in the amount of $12,500 will be utilized from Fiscal Year Budget 2025, account number 001-2100-521-6400, Project #PD25SG with proceeds from the Harry Shapiro donation for the purchase of K-9 Nikon.

Procurement

The purchase of K-9 Nikon was waived under the City Manager’s Procurement Policy of obtaining three quotes (see attachment #3).
