TITLE:                     An Ordinance of the City of North Port, Florida, Amending the Non-District Budget for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 for Opioid Treatment and Prevention Items in the Amount of $109,000; Providing for Findings; Providing for Posting; Providing for Conflicts; Providing for Severability; and Providing an Effective Date.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve Ordinance No. 2025-12 and move to second reading on May 27, 2025.

 

Background Information

 

The 111 fund is specifically for the State-overseen Opioid Settlement funds. Opioid Settlement funds may be spent on substance use disorder treatment, prevention and recovery as well as mental health treatment. Specifically, the funds must be spent on approved purposes in furtherance of the Core Strategies as delineated in the Florida Opioid Allocation and Statewide Response Agreement between the State of Florida Department of Legal Affairs, Office of Attorney General and Approved Uses as contained in settlement.

 

Staff is requesting the use of $109,000 from the fund for the following:

 

Ø                     Fire Department: Larynogscope and Simbody ($70,000)

Ø                     Police Department: CPR training materials ($13,000)

Ø                     Parks and Recreation: AED and stop the bleed kit, and Drug Free Youth Program ($26,000)

 

Ordinance No. 2025-12 has been reviewed by the Interim City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
