Recommended Action

Approve the template for a Contract for Reimbursement of Police Officer Training Expenses (New Employee - Training to be Completed in First Year of Employment) and authorize the City Manager or Designee to sign future Agreements using the approved template.

Background Information

The City offers reimbursement for State Certification tuition expenses for new City Police Officer employees who successfully complete the State of Florida Criminal Justice Academy during an employee's one-year probationary period. In-service training courses are also provided as part of the Police Department's training program at a cost to the City. The expenditures are expected to be recaptured through the employee's services to the Police Department.

The current template for a Contract for Reimbursement of Police Officer Training Expenses was approved by the City Commission on November 28, 2017, and provides the following:

> Recapture of tuition and in-service training expenditures if the employee does not complete the training.

> Employee fails to maintain his/her certification in good standing.

> Employee ends employment with the North Port Police Department, within thirty-six (36) months of certification.

This request is to approve an updated template for a Contract for Reimbursement of Police Officer Training Expenses which is substantively consistent with the current template, with only minor revisions.
