Recommended Action

Approve the application to the Florida Local Government Cybersecurity Grant Program for email security gateway capabilities and authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents after legal review, should the grant be awarded to the City.

Background Information

Pending enactment of the Florida FY 2024-25 General Appropriations Act, the Florida Local Government Cybersecurity Grant Program is a $40 million competitive grant equipping local governments with software, services, and solutions that enhance local governments' cybersecurity posture to protect their infrastructure and Floridians' data.

If awarded, the City's Information Technology Division plans to implement an email security gateway capability that will provide additional protection against email-based threats and malicious content, shielding communication channels from phishing and malware.

The application was submitted on May 30, 2024. Notification of award is expected in fall 2024. If selected for an award, the State of Florida will create a Grant Contract to purchase and provide mutually agreed-upon cybersecurity capabilities to the City. The City Attorney will review the Contract to ensure it is legally correct as to form. Matching funds are not required.
