Recommended Action

Approve the Agreement Between the Florida Charter Educational Foundation, Inc. and City of North Port, Florida for the School Resource Officer Program, in the Total Amount of $89,170.00.

Background Information

College Preparatory Academy at Wellen Park is a tuition-free public charter school that is currently enrolling students in kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2024-2025 school year. Florida Charter Educational Foundation, Inc. (FCEF) would like to continue with the School Resource Officer Program at the school for the upcoming school year. This is the first renewal of the School Resource Officer Program by FCEF.

The Agreement provides for the assignment of one regularly employed police officer to serve as School Resource Officer (SRO) under the same terms and conditions as the 2023-2024 Agreement. FCEF will pay a total fee of $89,170.00 in twelve (12) equal monthly installments over the Agreement term beginning July 1, 2024. This is an increase of $2,170.00 in the total annual fee from the previous year.

The Agreement for the School Resource Officer Program has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.

Financial Impact

The amount of $89,170.00 will be paid to the City of North Port, Florida from FCEF in equal monthly installments beginning July 1, 2024. Funds will be deposited in Revenue Account 001-0000-342.10-01.
