Background Information

The gym floor and air conditioning units for the gym at the Morgan Family Community Center were significantly damaged during Hurricane lan and require replacement. The gym flooring is on order, but the installer is holding on installation until there is air conditioning in the gym. The lead time for replacement units is in excess of 52 weeks.

In order to install the gym flooring and reopen the Morgan Family Community Center gym to the public, the Facilities Maintenance Division of the Department of Public Works is recommending that the Department of Parks & Recreation utilize temporary air conditioning units and generators until permanent repair can be made. Rental of the air conditioning units and required fuel for the generator for the one-year term are estimated to cost approximately $165,000.

A request for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursement has been submitted for review, but at this time there is no guarantee that this will be a covered expense.
