Recommended Action

Approve the application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Community Planning Technical Assistance Grant for the partial funding of a Master Plan for Activity Center 3, the Gateway Activity Center, in the amount of $75,000.00, and authorize the City Manager or the Mayor, as applicable under the City Charter, to execute all funding documents after legal review, should the grant be awarded to the City.

Background Information

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) anticipates the Florida Legislature will appropriate funding for the Community Planning Technical Assistance (CPTA) Grant Program for State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2023-2024. CPTA grants provide counties, municipalities, and regional planning councils the opportunity to create innovative plans and development strategies to promote a diverse economy, vibrant rural and suburban areas, and meet statutory requirements for planning, while also protecting environmentally sensitive areas.

The City of North Port submitted an application for $75,000.00 to partially fund a Master Plan for Activity Center 3, the Gateway Activity Center. If awarded this grant, funds will be used to develop a Master Plan for the 177.8 acre area surrounding the Sumter Boulevard and Interstate 75 interchange.
