The United States Department of Justice (USDOJ) Office of Justice Programs offers the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BPV) annually to reimburse states, units of local government, and federally recognized Indian tribes for up to 50 percent of the cost of body armor vests purchased for law enforcement officers. This count includes replacement vests that have met the five (5) year expiration date, vests required due to employee turnover, and vests required in anticipation of new positions. The City of North Port is expecting to replace 49 vests at a total estimated cost of $73,794.00. If awarded, the BVP grant funds are expected to total $36,897.00.

The grant application was submitted on June 16, 2023. Notification of award is expected in Fall of 2023. If awarded, this will be a reimbursable grant. The City spends first, then submits reimbursement requests to the granting agency for review, approval, and payment.
