Recommended Action

Approve the Voluntary Cooperation Mutual Aid Agreement Between the Participating Agencies and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to Form a Fort Myers Regional Operations Center Child Abduction Response Team.

Background Information

The purpose of this Agreement is for law enforcement agencies to join together in a multi-jurisdictional effort to rescue abducted children, and under appropriate circumstances, allocate resources to missing/endangered children's cases.

The North Port Police Department (NPPD) has utilized such resources in the past, which has allowed for trained investigators to assist with in-depth and complex investigations. The NPPD has also participated in training exercises with the partnering agencies to ensure the best response is utilized in the event activation is necessary within the region.

This Agreement will supersede the current Agreement dated October 13, 2020, and only updates the signature of the new Commissioner. The content and terms of the Agreement have not changed.

The Voluntary Cooperation Mutual Aid Agreement Between the Participating Agencies and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to Form a Fort Myers Regional Operations Center Child Abduction Response Team has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
