Background Information

The City of North Port was recognized as a Playful City USA from 2010 to 2017 through the national non-profit organization KABOOM! During the City Commission Regular Meeting held on April 14, 2014, the Commission adopted Ordinance No. 2014-14 establishing the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, including criteria associated with the Playful City USA Program. In 2017 KABOOM! discontinued the Playful City USA Program. As a result of the standards for the Program no longer being applicable, it has been determined that reference to the Program found in Chapter 4, Article VII, Section 4-162 (2) a through d, (3) and (4) should be removed from the Code of the City of North Port, Florida. In addition to removing language related to designing an action plan for play, conducting a play space audit and organizing an annual Play Day, revisions have been made to the formatting and grammar in this same section for purposes of clarity.

Ordinance No. 2023-10 has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.
