TITLE: Discussion and Possible Action Regarding Prior Commission Direction to Create a Potential Position for a Research Archivist to Include a Job Description for Budgetary Considerations for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.
Recommended Action
> To rescind prior Commission direction given during the City Commission Special Meeting on January 4, 2024, Item No. 23-1582 to create a potential position for a Research Archivist to include a job description for budgetary considerations for Fiscal Year 2024-2025.
> To direct the Historic and Cultural Advisory Board to collaborate with long-time residents of the City to capture information regarding historical events on an ongoing basis.
Background Information
During the City Commission Special Meeting held on January 4, 2024, the Commission along with prior Historic and Cultural Advisory Board members discussed the need to further document the City's history by interviewing long-time residents. At the conclusion of their discussion, the Commission approved the following motion:
> Motion: To direct the Charter Officers to work together to create a potential position for a Research Archivist to include a job description for budgetary considerations for Fiscal Year 24/25 and to determine which department the position would be better suited in.
Upon review of job descriptions relating to historical resources by the City Clerk, City Manager, and Human Resources Director, staff does not recommend the creation of a Research Archivist position within the City. While it is important to continue the documentation of the City's history, due to the age of the City, staff does not believe the duties would support a full-time or part-time, long-term position.
As such, staff recommends documentation of City history be added as an ongoing role and responsibility of the Historic and Cultural Advisory Board.
