TITLE:                     Approve the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement Between the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the City of North Port.

Recommended Action

Approve the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement between the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the City of North Port.

Background Information

In July of 2001, the City adopted the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement with Resolution 01-R-44 and renewed this Agreement in 2019. To ensure that all jurisdictions are working under the most recent version of the Agreement, the Florida Division of Emergency Management is requesting that all jurisdictions update their Agreements to the 2023 version.

The Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement is the mechanism for the City of North Port to request mutual aid in an emergency situation and provides the ability to deploy City employees to other governmental entities requesting mutual aid. The Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement also includes the ability for the City to seek financial reimbursement from the State of Florida for the costs incurred through mutual aid.

The Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement between the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the City of North Port has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.  Additionally, the City Attorney has advised that this Mutual Aid Agreement can be approved without the need for adoption by Resolution.

Strategic Plan

Safe Community

Financial Impact

None for continued Agreement. However, without the Agreement in place, there would be no mechanism for reimbursement of mutual aid costs incurred for a declared disaster.
