TITLE: Approve the Interagency Agreement By and Between the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the City of North Port, Florida on Behalf of the North Port Police Department for Use of the Knight Trail Park Gun Range at a Reasonable Hourly Rate to the City of North Port.


Recommended Action

Approve the Interagency Agreement By and Between the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and the City of North Port, Florida on Behalf of the North Port Police Department for Use of the Knight Trail Park Gun Range at a reasonable hourly rate to the City of North Port.

Background Information

The North Port Police Department currently utilizes Knight Trail Park Gun Range (Knight Trail) for firearm training and qualifications under an Interlocal Agreement that was approved by Commission on December 14, 2021. The Agreement presented will supersede the current Agreement.

The rules and regulations for use of the Knight Trail law enforcement firing/gun range facilities are outlined in the Interlocal Agreement. The reasonable fees charged by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office are authorized under Resolution No. 98-259 of the Board of County Commissioners of Sarasota County, Florida. Anticipated fees are budgeted annually by the North Port Police Department.

The initial term of this Agreement begins on the last date signed by the parties (effective date) and terminates on September 30, 2024. It automatically renews for additional one-year periods thereafter, unless terminated.

The Interlocal Agreement has been reviewed by the City Attorney and is legally correct as to form.

Financial Impact
