TO:                                           Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission

FROM:                      Jonathan R. Lewis, ICMA-CM, City Manager

TITLE:                     Presentation of the annual report about a Music Suite Use Agreement for the North Port Performing Arts Center

Recommended Action

Receive a presentation from Joan Skowyra, president of the North Port Performing Arts Association, regarding the use of a Music Suite at the North Port Performing Arts Center by the North Port Concert Band, the North Port Chorale, and the North Port Symphony.

Background Information

In 1998, the City of North Port and the Sarasota County School District signed a construction agreement in which the City would provide funding:

1.                     To upgrade a planned high school auditorium into a professionally equipped performing arts theater (now known as the North Port Performing Arts Center);

2.                     To fully fund construction of a 60,000-square-foot facility that became known as the Music Suite, which is now the rehearsal venue for the North Port Concert Band, North Port Chorale, and North Port Symphony (collectively known as the North Port Performing Arts Association).

A Use Agreement for the Music Suite (effective as of February 1, 2011) currently exists between the City of North Port and the Sarasota County School District.

Each year, the North Port Performing Arts Association provides usage reports to the North Port City Commission. Joan Skowyra, president of the North Port Performing Arts Association, will present a report to the City Commission on May 5, 2016.
