TITLE: Update on Butler Park Family Aquatic Center
Recommended Action
Presentation on the Butler Park Family Aquatic Center conceptual plan and timeline.
Background Information
At the March 29, 2017 Commission workshop, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. presented a concept for a 50M competitive pool w/ bulkheads, lazy river, support buildings (bath house, office, concessions, and pool mechanical) with pool heaters, lighting, fencing, shade, and concrete pool deck for staging and spectator seating. Additional amenities included a children’s pool, water slides, and other spray features. At that workshop, Commission determined that a more balanced aquatic facility to serve multi-generational programming would better meet the needs of the community and directed staff to work with the Consultant to develop a new concept for a family aquatic center.
During the May 22, 2017 Commission special meeting, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. presented a revised concept that replaced the 50M competitive pool with a stretch 25-yard lap pool, incorporated a zero-depth entry to the lazy river, enhanced the children’s play pool amenities, and added water slides, spray features, shade and deck seating. Based on feedback received during that meeting, several additional changes to the design were requested and are reflected in the updated concept plan (attached) including:
1) Separated the children’s pool from the lazy river
2) Added wide steps for lesson programming at the lazy river
3) Added the shade for the bleachers
4) Deleted the oval canopy at the main bathhouse/entry area and made it perpendicular to get more deck space
5) Relocated and expanded the bowl slide and added a wet deck area at the river island
With the Commission’s approval at the May 22, 2017 meeting to move forward with the project as presented and discussed, the design, bidding and construction of the Butler Park Family Aquatic Center is conservatively estimated to take 730 calendar days with a tentative project schedule as follows:
