TITLE: Approve the Interagency Agreement providing access to the National Crime Information Center and the Florida Crime Information Center made between the City of North Port on behalf of the North Port Police Department and the School Board of Sarasota County Police Department which will allow the School Board Police Department access to FDLE computer terminals with no financial impact to the City.


Recommended Action

Approve the Interagency Agreement providing access to the National Crime Information Center and the Florida Crime Information Center made between the City of North Port on behalf of the North Port Police Department and the School Board of Sarasota County Police Department which will allow the School Board Police Department access to FDLE computer terminals with no financial impact to the City.

Background Information

On January 09, 2019 the North Port Police Department (NPPD) and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement entered into a Criminal Justice User Agreement granting the NPPD access to FDLE computer terminals for accessing the National Crime Information System (NCIC), and the Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC), through the Criminal Justice Network (CJNET).

NCIC can be described as an electronic clearinghouse of crime data that can be tapped into by virtually every criminal justice agency nationwide, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It helps criminal justice professionals apprehend fugitives, locate missing persons, recover stolen property, and identify terrorists. It also assists law enforcement officers in performing their duties more safely and provides information necessary to protect the public.

The agreement permits the NPPD to provide criminal justice information through an interagency agreement to another criminal justice agency, and the School Board Police Department is such an agency. This agreement will grant the ...
