Recommended Action
Approve Resolution No. 2019-R-06, City of North Port to Adopt the Sarasota County Program for Public Information (PPI).
Background Information
In accordance with the 2018 audit results of the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System (CRS) 2018, the City of North Port received 2,346 points which correspond to a CRS rating of 6. A CRS rating of 6 provides a twenty percent (20%) flood insurance discount for structures within the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) and ten percent (10%) flood insurance discount for structures outside of the SFHA.
A CRS rating of 5 will increase the flood insurance discount for structures within the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) from twenty percent (20%) to twenty-five percent (25%). Attachment 2 corresponding to Table 110-1 in the CRS 2017 Manual, provides the CRS classes, credit points and premium discounts.
By adopting and participating in the existing Sarasota County Program for Public Information (PPI) Committee formed under the Sarasota County's CRS program (Attachment 2), the City of North Port may attain the additional 154 CRS credit points needed to achieve an improved CRS rating of 5. A formal vote in the form of a Resolution by the City of North Port Governing Body of the Road and Drainage District is a prerequisite to adopt the Sarasota County PPI.
The City Attorney has reviewed and approved Resolution No. 2019-R-06.
