Background Information
Commission received the following communication from Doug Hattaway with the Trust for Public Land:
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) and Gulf Coast Community Foundation (GCCF) are pleased to offer combined cash donations of $33,500 to the City of North Port as a contribution toward the cost of creating the North Port Connector - a connection from North Port to the Legacy Trail.
We are aware Sarasota County has hired Kimley Horn to design and produce construction documents for the Legacy Trail extension, and also conduct a feasibility analysis of alternative routing for the North Port Connector. We understand the alternatives are likely to include access to North Port from the westerly terminus of West Price Boulevard. We wish for the cash donation to apply toward the costs of accessing the North Port Connector from this location through the design and construction of trailhead facilities and a pedestrian bridge across the adjacent canal. If in the future it is determined that another preferred access point from North Port to the North Port Connector is identified, we wish for the City to have the flexibility to apply these funds toward another location so long as it furthers a connection from North Port to the North Port Connector.
With your concurrence we wish to publicly present the donation to the City Council during its budget meetings scheduled for July 15, 16 and 17. My travel schedule precludes me (Doug) from attending any day other than July 17 and we respectively request the opportunity to present these donations at the ...
