Approval of Parks & Recreation Master Plan Appendix I - Parks & Recreation Mission and Vision

Background Information

On April 27, 2015, the City Commission approved Agreement #2015-52 with Toole Design Group, LLC for development of the City of North Port Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The plan development commenced in May of 2015 and was presented to Commission on April 26, 2016 where it was accepted as a “work product”. On January 9, 2018 the City Commission voted unanimously to adopt the Parks and Recreation Master Plan as amended.

Parks & Recreation has applied for Accreditation through the National Recreation and Parks Association Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).  An adopted Master Plan that includes the agency’s Mission is a requirement of accreditation.

Upon review of the adopted Master Plan, it was noted that the Department’s Mission is referenced, (page 20) however not explicitly stated within the Master Plan, as is required by CAPRA.

To ensure compliance with this required accreditation fundamental, Parks & Recreation requests approval to add Appendix I - Parks & Recreation Mission and Vision to the adopted Master Plan.
