TO: Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission
FROM: Peter D. Lear, CPA, CGMA, Interim City Manager
TITLE: Contract for the City Manager
Recommended Action
Discuss and approve a contract for the City Manager
Background Information
At the March 28, 2017 City Commission meeting, the Commission appointed Pete Lear as the Interim City Manager following the resignation of Jonathan Lewis and directed staff to issue a solicitation for the search for a new City Manager. On April 11, 2017, staff prepared an agenda item with the results of the solicitation. At that meeting, Commission decided to offer the position to the Interim City Manager and directed staff to schedule a special meeting in the first couple of weeks in June to negotiate a contract with Pete Lear using the previous City Manager's contract as a template.
At the May 23rd City Commission meeting, the Interim City Manager brought the scheduling of the special meeting up under Administrative Reports to get the meeting scheduled. The Commission agreed to have the City Clerk schedule the meeting and also gave consensus authorizing the Mayor to provide a sample contract as well.
The City Commission began discussions regarding the contract for the Interim City Manager at a Special Commission Meeting on June 6th. At that meeting the Commission unanimously approved to continue the discussion at another meeting.
Attached to this agenda are the previous two City Manager contracts, the sample contract proposed submitted by the Mayor and a draft agreement being proposed by the Interim City Manager. You will also find the Resume for Pete Lear attached and the current City Personnel Policy.
