TITLE: Recognition of the 2017 Solid Waste Association of North America Florida Sunshine Chapter Road-E-O participants and winners.
Recommended Action
Recognize the participants and winners of the 2017 Solid Waste Association of North America Florida Sunshine Chapter Road-E-O held on April 28, 2017 and April 29, 2017.
Background Information
On April 28, 2017 and April 29, 2017, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Florida Sunshine Chapter held their annual truck driver and mechanics Road-E-O competition in the City of Lakeland. Solid Waste drivers and Fleet Maintenance mechanics from across the state competed in the event which promoted professionalism, created a spirit of competition, and provided opportunities to refresh skills.
The City of North Port had the following two Solid Waste employees participate:
Shawn Ruff and Ben Tipp Jr., front load truck competition.
In order to compete, participants must have a clean safety record and a satisfactory work attendance record. The event measured the participant’s skill, knowledge of safety regulations and knowledge of equipment used through a written exam, a CDL pre-test inspection and a driving skills course.
Shawn Ruff finished second place and Ben Tipp Jr. finished third place in the front load competition. As a second place winner, Shawn Ruff will represent the City of North Port and the State of Florida at the 2017 SWANA International Road-E-O in Orlando, Florida, in October 2017, a courtesy of the SWANA Florida Sunshine Chapter.
