Recommended Action

Approve the application and accept the Community Grant from the Walmart Foundation in the amount of $2,000 to be used for Shop with a Cop.

Background Information

Shop with a Cop has been a huge success and acknowledges there are underprivileged elementary aged students in North Port that will often go without during the holiday seasons. Our staff partners with the area school staff, present in each of the elementary schools in North Port, who identify these children. Dependent on funding, we are able to help 60-70 children. This allows children to interact with law enforcement and other willing community members on a positive note that will hopefully have a lasting effect on them throughout their lives.

Strategic Plan

Financially Responsible City Providing Quality Municipal Services.

Financial Impact

We have budgeted $9,000 for the Annual Shop with a Cop Program in account number 001-2100-521.48-71.

Procurement

The grant funding will be used to purchase gift cards, wrapping paper, and tape from Walmart for Shop With a Cop.
