Background Information

City Commission has approved funding in the FY 2018-19 Fire Rescue District and General Fund\Emergency Medical Services budgets for the annual replacement of protective clothing sets as well as new sets for the 21 firefighters hired under the SAFER grant. Firefighter protective clothing is comprised of a matched set of coat and pants, which are individually assigned. Every five years a replacement set is provided to the firefighter, with the used set cycled into reserve for an additional five years. Reserve sets are necessary to ensure members have an alternate set which they can wear if their primary set is contaminated or damaged. Boots are also individually issued and kept for ten years. After the ten-year mark has been reached, the sets are placed out-of-service per National Fire Protection Association standards.

The bulk of ordering will be placed prior to the end of December; however, some sets and/or boots will need to be purchased after the beginning of the new year. An additional amount of $3,200 above the quote is requested to cover the projected 3% cost increases after January 1, 2019. The FY 2018-2019 budgeted allows for an estimated amount of $132,000.

Lake County solicitation was procured competitively. Utilization of the pricing and contract of another agency affords the City pricing advantages obtained by larger governments. Utilization of other government's contracts is in accordance with the Procurement Code.
