TITLE: Approve renewal of Contract No. 2012-07 for Vending Machine Services with Snackworks, Inc. for an additional and final five (5) year term.


Recommended Action

Approve renewal of Contract No. 2012-07 for Vending Machine Services with Snackworks, Inc. for an additional and final five (5) year term through and including May 14, 2022, by mutual consent, at the same terms and conditions.

Background Information

The intent of this solicitation was to select a firm to provide quality products and services at market price and manage the vending machine services at City facilities. Additionally, the City required the successful contractor to present reasonable compensation options to the City to operate snack machines throughout City facilities. The revenue generated from this solicitation helps offset operating expenses, while offering beverages and snacks to staff and citizens. Snackworks, Inc. utilizes energy star rated equipment which lower electricity bills.

On March 26, 2012, the commission authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute the contract with Snackworks, Inc. The term of this agreement is five (5) years, ending in May, 2017 and may, by mutual written agreement of the parties, be extended for one (1) additional five (5) year term. The total contract term shall not exceed ten (10) years. Snackworks, Inc. has provided prompt service, responded to our requests, and has continued meet the changing needs of our City.

The City currently has vending machines at the following locations:

Police - snack & beverage
Mullen Center - snack & beverage
Morgan Center - snack & 2 beverage
City Hall - snack & beverage
Skate Park - beverage

The City vending machines contain better choice items such as: nuts, baked chips, pretzels, granola bar (each machine will have 2 to 6 options). The choices depend on the locations, as inventory is const...
