Recommended Action

 

Accept the Season of Sharing funds in the amount of $50,000 and authorize the City Manager to execute the grant contract #20174001 from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County

 

Background Information

 

This will be the fourteenth award of Season of Sharing funds that North Port Social Services has received through the Community Foundation of Sarasota County since 2007. The funds are to be used to fill emergency needs for families.  Funds may be used for a variety of situations, including but not limited to, first month rent, past due rent, mortgage payments, utility payments, utility deposits, moving and/or storage costs if a client is evicted on short term notice, child care, summer day care, transportation to and from work and medical appointments.  Additional needs may include, clothing necessary for adults to gain employment, required work tools to begin employment or maintain permanent employment, and food vouchers for emergency situations to name a few.

 

Season of Sharing funds are to be used as “last resort” when other regular funding sources have been exhausted.

 

Grant contract #20174001 from the Foundation sets out the conditions of accepting the grant, which will be administered through the General Services Department’s Social Services Division.

 

The last grant received was Contract #20151402.
