TITLE:                     Disposition of surplus assets by an appropriate fashion per City Ordinance No. 06-29 Sec. 2-410 set forth in F.S. 274.02(1).

Recommended Action

Approve the disposition of surplus assets as proposed.

Background Information

In compliance with Ordinance No. 06-29, the attached items are presented for disposition in a manner consistent with Ordinance No. 06-29 Sec. 2-410 Paragraph (d).  “Assets with an original purchase value greater than the threshold limit set for in F.S. 274.02(1), must receive City Commission approval for disposal and may then be disposed of by offering the assets to other public entities, selling the assets, discarding the assets or donating the assets.”  City staff has prepared for Commission consideration a list of assets to be disposed and the recommended method of disposal.

The City installed a new phone system last fiscal year.  The old system was extremely outdated.  The IT Division of General Services is unable to determine if the system has any value at this time.  An attempt to trade-in the system to a phone vendor was cancelled by the vendor due to the age and incompatibility of the system.  Staff is recommending attempting to auction the system in case some other entity that may still have the old system would purchase for parts.  If the auction is unsuccessful, the system will be scrapped.  The remaining item on the list, a 30 horsepower pump is also obsolete.  Staff is recommending attempting to auction the item and if unsuccessful scrapping as well.
