TITLE:                     Disposition of Surplus Assets in an appropriate fashion pursuant to Chapter 2 Administration, Article VIII Procurement, Section 2-419, Disposition of City Assets and Property (d), (1) of North Port, Florida, Administrative Code, set forth in Florida Statute 274.06

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Asset Disposition and Recommended Method dated May 2019 pursuant to Chapter 2 Administration, Article VIII Procurement, Section 2-419, Disposition of City Assets and Property (d), (1).

 

Background Information

 

The Fleet Manager and Fleet Asset Technician have critiqued the City’s equipment and vehicle fleet and have prepared the Asset Disposition and Recommended Method dated May 2019.  The Fire Rescue District and Police Department have reviewed the list of vehicles recommended for disposal and determined they do not need the vehicles for training purposes.

 

The Sarasota County School Board is requesting to purchase four (4) of the City’s obsolete Police Department vehicles for use in the School Resource Officer Program at a purchase price of $4,900 each.

 

The City’s equipment and vehicle fleet included in the Asset Disposition and Recommended Method dated May 2019 comply with the following:

 

 

1.                     Chapter 2, Administration, Article VIII, Procurement, Section 2-419, Disposition of City Assets and Property, (d), (1), (2) and (3), North Port, Florida, Administrative Code which states:

 

(d) [When commission approval required.] Assets with an original purchase value greater than the threshold limit set forth in F.S. 274.06, must receive city commission approval for disposal and may then be disposed of in the following fashion:

 

(1)                     Sold. Surplus assets determined to have no useful purpose for the city or other public entities yet still having some intrinsic value may be held for inclusion in an auction or other city sale, such as closed bidding.

 

(2)                     Discarded. Surplus assets determined to have no useful purpose and no value for the city or any other entity may be discarded in the trash.

 

(3)                     Donated. Surplus assets determined to have no useful purpose for the city yet still containing some intrinsic value may be donated by the city commission to a nonprofit agency or governmental agency.
