TITLE: Proclamation for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day, November 14, 2018
Recommended Action
City Commission recognizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day, November 14, 2018, to be accepted by Jeff Kasson, IT Division Manager and Michele O’Neil, Land Management Administrator.
Background Information
Geography Awareness Week (November 11 through November 17) is an annual effort to increase awareness of the importance of geography in our daily lives. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been developed to collect and organize data in a digital fashion. These systems have become increasingly important in providing inventory, spatial, and analytics information to governments and other institutions. In recognition of the valuable role these GIS systems play in the delivery of services, and the GIS professionals who administer these systems, the City Commission hereby proclaims November 14, 2018 as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day and calls upon all employees and citizens to participate in GIS Day activities.
To promote awareness of GIS Day, the City of North Port staff will be providing interactive demonstrations of GIS applications, for the visitors. This event is open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend. This event will be held at City Hall 1st floor lobby from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on November 14.
