TITLE: Authorize the City Manager to execute the Application for Voluntary Re-accreditation and the Accreditation Agreement between the Department of Public Works and the Accreditation Council of the American Public Works Association (APWA). The application fee is approved in the FY 2018 budget.


Recommended Action

Authorize the City Manager to execute the Application for Voluntary Re-accreditation and the Accreditation Agreement between the Department of Public Works and the Accreditation Council of the American Public Works Association (APWA). The application fee is approved in the FY 2018 budget.

Background Information

On May 23, 2014, the Department of Public Works became the 91st APWA accredited agency and the eighth in Florida to receive full accreditation from the Accreditation Council for the APWA.

On May 27, 2016, the Department of Public Works submitted the Accreditation Mid-Term Report which identified changes or improvements made over the past two years. Pursuant to the APWA, the Mid-Term Report was designed to promote the following three purposes, 1) Verify the status of each organization as to any changes that may have occurred in the last two years and to ascertain the Department of Public Work's interest in participating in the program; 2) Promote organizational development by promoting the concept of continuous improvement regarding its management practices; and 3) Assist organizations in its efforts for re-accreditation, utilizing the latest edition of the Public Works Management Practices Manual.

In the last three years, the Department of Public Works has continuously reviewed and updated practices developed as part of the accreditation process.
