Approve utilization of the State of Florida Department of Management Services Motor Vehicles Contract #25100000-16-1 to purchase one (1) 2018 Ford F-150 and two (2) Ford Explorers in the budgeted amount of $84,737.95 for the Fire Department.

Background Information

The Fire Department is replacing one (1) 2005 Ford F-150 (CID 70611), one 2007 Ford Escape (CID 71018) and one (1) 2008 Dodge Durango (CID 71214). The Ford Escape is a hybrid with a primary battery having a battery life of 6.5 - 11 years. Due to a battery replacement cost of $10,000, it is judicious to replace the vehicle prior to the battery going out. The Dodge Durango has a critical braking issue that neither the City nor the dealer can repair with assurance it will not happen again. The vehicle is now only driven as a backup in the City (<45 mph) and for safety reasons, needs to be replaced.

Garber Ford Inc. is an approved vendor under the State of Florida Department of Management Services Motor Vehicles Contract. This contract is made available to local governments and municipal Police and Fire departments within the State for vehicle and equipment acquisition. Using this cooperative bid, local government agencies are able to obtain competitive pricing. Local government agencies have the flexibility to choose a product or service according to the business needs, such as price, warranty, supplier performance or brand name.

While City ordinance authorizes the City Manager to utilize piggyback agreements, the City Manager's policy requires all agreements exceeding $100,000 to be presented to Commission for consideration. All appropr...
