Recommended Action

Approve the single-source purchase of a Pierce Manufacturing replacement ladder truck from Ten-8 Fire Equipment of Bradenton, FL in the budgeted amount of $857,113.00.

Background Information

The City of North Port through the Fleet Management Division has standardized the City's fleet of Fire Rescue vehicles and equipment. This strategy has several advantages which are detailed in the attached memorandum from Fleet Management.

Specific to Fire Rescue's purchases of fire apparatus, the vehicles obtained from Pierce Manufacturing have historically performed better than other manufacturers in terms of maintenance costs, reliability and service/warranty/parts provision. This cost difference translates to thousands of taxpayer dollar savings through the ten-year life expectancy of the apparatus.

The City previously made the determination to move forward with Ten-8 Fire Equipment, the only Pierce Manufacturing-authorized dealership in Florida, for several reasons: the reliability of the Pierce product, the vendor service facility located in Bradenton and the vendor mobile service availability, the inclusion of the performance bond at no cost to the City, and the location of the Pierce plant in Bradenton for warranty work which solidified the recommendation. Ten-8 currently has the service contract for the City's fire vehicles. Fleet Management is satisfied with Ten-8's performance and proposed Pierce specifications.
