TITLE:                     Agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida and City of North Port for the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program for FY 2017-2018.

 

 

Recommended Action

 

Approve the Agreement between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida and City of North Port for the School Resource Officer Program for the 2017-2018 school year.

 

Background Information

 

The renewal of the School Resource Officer Agreement for the 2017-2018 school year calls for two (2) SRO's to be assigned to the North Port High School, one (1) SRO to Heron Creek Middle School, one (1) to Woodland Middle School, and one (1) Sergeant to oversee all the SRO's.

 

The Sarasota County School Board agrees to pay half the salaries and benefits of all the SRO's and Sergeant for the entire year (12 months) at a sum of $264,282.10 to be paid to the City in twelve (12) equal monthly payments beginning July 1, 2017.

 

The proposed agreement has been approved by the City Attorney’s Office as to being legally correct as to form.

Financial Impact

 

The total cost of the agreement including salaries and benefits is $528,564.20. The School Board agrees to pay $264,282.10. The City's portion, $264,282.10 will be included in the Police Department's 2017-2018 proposed budget.

 

 

Procurement

 

Procurement of School Resource Officer services is exempt from competition per Sec. 2-403 (a)(2) of the City Procurement Code.
