TITLE: 2017-18 Gulf Coast Community Foundation Grant Application - Community Grant in the amount of $2,000 to be used for Shop with a Cop. Shop with a Cop is budgeted in the FY 17/18 approved budget.

Recommended Action
Approve the application and accept the Community Grant from the Gulf Coast Community Foundation in the amount of $2,000 to be used for Shop With a Cop.
Background Information
Shop with a Cop has been a huge success and acknowledges there are underprivileged elementary aged students in North Port that will often go without during the holiday seasons. Our staff partners with the area school staff, present in each of the elementary schools in North Port, who identify these children. Dependent on funding, we are able to help 60-70 children. This allows children to interact with law enforcement and other willing community members on a positive note that will hopefully have a lasting effect on them throughout their lives.
Commission approved $6,000 in the current budget, as a revenue neutral line item. Currently, employees of the Police Department are out performing fund raiser events from area businesses and individuals to help support the Shop with a Cop program. If awarded, this grant would greatly assist the Program.

We have budgeted $6,000 for the Annual Shop with a Cop Program in account number 001-2100-521.
48-71. The grant revenue provides funding to keep this project revenue neutral.
