TITLE: Proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week, May 19-25, 2019
Recommended Action
Present proclamation
Background Information
Emergency Medical Services Week was authorized by President Gerald Ford back in 1974 to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation’s communities. Back then, EMS was a new profession; now we recognize EMS practitioners for their important contributions in safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of their communities.
EMS Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine’s “front line.”
EMS practitioners help save lives by responding to medical emergencies, including heart attack, difficulty breathing, falls, accident, drowning, cardiac arrest, stroke, drug overdose, or acute illness. EMS may provide both basic and advance medical care at the scene of an emergency and in route to the hospital. EMS practitioners care for their patients’ medical needs with compassion during the most difficult moments - they are “EMS Strong - Beyond the Call.”
The City of North Port urges all members of our community to celebrate EMS week.
This proclamation will be presented to the Division Chief Karl Bennett, EMS Training Officer Joshua Clements and members of North Port Fire Rescue.
