The Florida Water Environment Association (FWEA) is a leading non-profit organization which promotes a clean and sustainable water environment through supporting industry professionals by uniting members and organizations, providing professional development opportunities and increasing public awareness of utility matters. Each year, the FWEA recognizes members and organizations from all over the state for outstanding performance, contributions and commitment to the water and wastewater industry.
This year, the City of North Port received the FWEA Public Education Award in the organization category. The Public Education Award recognizes accomplishments in fostering and supporting the development of public outreach programs and integrating public education as a core element of wastewater and water utility planning and management. Through the award, the FWEA intends to encourage utilities professionals and organizations to incorporate public education and outreach into their operating plans, as well as provide examples of successful education programs and best practices.
North Port Utilities submitted the Where’s Ricky campaign for award consideration and received the award at the Florida Water Resources Conference (FWRC) in Daytona on April 18, 2018. The FWRC is an annual conference for members of the FWEA, Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association, and Florida Section of the American Waterworks Association.
