TITLE: Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and City of North Port regarding a Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Recommended Action
Approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and City of North Port regarding a Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Background Information
The purpose of this MOU is to outline the mission of the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), and to formalize the partnership between the FBI and the City of North Port, in order to maximize cooperation and to create a cohesive unit capable of addressing the most complex terrorism investigations. It is the mission of the JTTF to deter, defeat, and respond vigorously to terrorism in the U.S. or against any U.S. interest. The FBI and the City of North Port recognizes the need for all federal, state and local, and tribal agencies that are involved in fighting terrorism to coordinate and share information and resources.
The JTTF operates under the authority of the Attorney General of the United States and all JTTF participants must adhere to applicable Attorney General’s Guidelines and directives.
The proposed agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form and content by the City Attorney.

Financial Impact
Requests for reimbursement by the FBI will be made on a monthly basis. Overtime reimbursements will be calculated at the usual rate for which the individual officer’s time would be compensated in the absence of this Agreement.
