TO: Honorable Mayor & Members of the North Port Commission
FROM: Peter D. Lear, CPA, CGMA, Interim City Manager
TITLE: Proclamation for Building Safety Month
Recommended Action
Commission to present Building Safety Month Proclamation
Background Information
The world will celebrate Building Safety Month during the entire month of May 2019. First observed in 1980 as Building Safety Week, Building Safety Month 2019 is charged with raising public awareness of critical safety issues such as the structural soundness of building, reliability of fire prevention and suppression systems, plumbing and mechanical systems and energy efficiency and sustainability. These issues will affect every person, regardless of age or occupation. Local inspectors, plan reviewers, and others work to ensure the safety of the structures in which all of us live, work, attend school, worship, and play. These individuals are the first line of defense against building disasters and work daily to ensure safety in the built environment. Rick Hopkins, Building Official for the City of North Port, will be accepting the Proclamation for Building Safety Month as a representative for the City.
