TITLE:                                          Discussion on Utilities Neighborhood Expansion Project U19NEP

Recommended Action

Provide input on the Utilities Neighborhood Expansion Project for expanding water and wastewater services and consensus to select a portion of the Madagascar Zone 28.1 neighborhood as the first phase of an ongoing multi-phase expansion program.

Background Information

In 2014, a Water Demand Analysis was conducted by Wade Trim to identify neighborhoods for a Neighborhood Expansion Pilot Project to neighborhoods where city water was desired.  Based on the results of that analysis, Utilities completed the Neighborhood Expansion Pilot Program in the Madagascar 28.2 and 28.3 neighborhoods in 2016, funded by surtax dollars.

Utilities proposes to continue expansion of services using surtax funding and has identified a portion of the Madagascar Zone 28.1 area from the Demand Analysis as the next area.  In this project, Utilities proposes the expansion of central wastewater as well as water service, to reduce the environmental impact of individual septic systems.  Utilities will be providing a presentation and information for discussion and input from Commission on moving forward with the project.

Strategic Plan

This project supports the City’s Strategic Plan Infrastructure Objective of expanding the wastewater collection and water distribution systems and the Health & Public Safety Objective of enhancing services and expanding availability of resources provided to residents.

Financial Impact

Due to this being an initial discussion, the financial impact is none.
