TITLE: Proclamation for Make a Difference Day
Recommended Action
City Commission proclaim January 12, 2019 as Make a Difference Day in the City of North Port.
Background Information
On September 11, 2018, Mr. Jim Foubister with Serve Florida provided a presentation to City Commission in support of organizing Make a Difference Day in the City of North Port. Serve Florida is a 501c3 non-profit organization that synergizes volunteers from local churches, non-profits and other local groups to help those in need.
The Parks & Recreation Department is collaborating with Serve Florida and local Disc Golf groups to plan and organize Make a Difference Day on January 12, 2019. On this day, volunteer efforts will be focused on site preparations for the City’s first disc golf course located adjacent to the North Port Skate Park along North Port Boulevard. Volunteers will be provided with a shirt, gloves, bags and a small supply of hand tools to assist in removing invasive species along the course. A complimentary lunch will be provided by Serve Florida at the end of the volunteer work day.
