TITLE: Purchase of a Pierce Manufacturing Inc. replacement fire engine from Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. at an estimated price of $622,878.00.
Recommended Action
Approval of the single-source purchase of a Pierce Manufacturing Inc. replacement fire engine from Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. at an estimated price of $622,878.00.
Background Information
City Commission approved $750,000.00 in the fiscal year 2019 budget for the purchase of the following:

The purchase of one (1) replacement Pierce Manufacturing Inc. Fire Engine for the Fire Rescue District to be utilized by staff during emergencies. The existing Fire Engine (CID #70427) may be reassigned to the Public Safety Training Center or will be disposed of through the City’s auction services.
The City Commission previously made the decision to utilize Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. to purchase the vehicles and equipment for the Fire Rescue District. Pierce Manufacturing Inc. is the only authorized dealership in Florida. Staff’s recommendation to continue purchasing the Pierce Manufacturing Inc. Fire Engine is based upon the following:
Ø Reliability of the Pierce product.
Ø The vendor service facility is in Bradenton, Florida.
Ø Vendor mobile service availability.
Ø Inclusion of the performance bond at no cost to the City.
Ø Proximity of the Pierce Manufacturing Inc. plant in Bradenton, Florida for warranty work.
Ø Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. currently has the service contract for the Fire Rescue District vehicles and equipment.
The expiration date of the Ten-8 Fire Equipment, Inc. proposal is January 31,2019. On February 1, 2019, the price of the Fire Engine will increase an additional $18,686.34. The purchase price reflects all manufacturer discounts and a prepayment discount of $17,035.00. The anticipated delivery of the vehicle is approximately nine months from the date of order.
The Fire Rescue District anticipates additional ancillary equipment expenses for this Fire Engine. The purchase and/or installation of ancillary equipment will be issued under separate purchase orders to multiple vendors.
Vehicle and capital equipment replacement are determined through a combination of mileage, age, hours and efficiency, as well as changing industry standards.
