Recommended Action

Discussion and direction regarding presentation by Mr. Rich Suggs.

Background Information

At the December 11, 2018 Regular Commission Meeting Mr. Rich Suggs presented a proposal to Commission related to Economic Development. The Commission directed the City Manager and City Attorney to review the lawfulness of the proposal and have Mr. Suggs bring back a more detailed presentation at the January 8th regular meeting.  There were conversations related to the use of city funds for this effort, validity and merit of the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the relationship of the EDC with North Port.

The City Attorney has not had an opportunity to review this proposal prior to the agenda being posted.  The City Manager and City Attorney met regarding the legality of the City spending funds on an Economic Development Organization.  Based on a high level discussion without the details, this is an allowed expenditure.
