Background Information

On July 2, 2018, the City Commission directed certain changes to the City’s two codes related to advisory boards. The changes to the ULDC will come before the Commission in Ordinance No. 2018-37, as a separate agenda item.  The changes to the Code of the City of North Port are captured in this ordinance.

The Commission directed the following changes to the Code of the City of North Port:

                     Allow one nonresident to serve and vote on each board, provided that the nonresident has owned property in North Port for one year; ownership to be proven by the Sarasota County property tax bill;

                     Allow the nonresident member of the Public Utility Advisory Board the right to vote;

                     Provide a one-year residency requirement;

                     Add public comment to the beginning and end of all meeting agendas;

                     Require the Commission’s approval of appointed Audit Committee members in the same manner as other boards; and

                     Ensure the vacancy and removal provisions of all boards are consistent with Section 4-3.
